EV Chargers
Level 1 EV Charging
Level 1 charging requires 12-16 amps @ 120V’s. Charging your car overnight typically will get you 40-60 miles of charge.
Pro’s:
- If your garage is 2017 and newer you have a resolute 20 Amp circuit in your garage due to the NEC 2017 code change.
- Cheaper cost installation
Con’s:
- If your house is older than 2017 more than likely your outlets in the garage are feeding or fed from other outlets. This prohibits the maximum allowable ampacity you will have available to charge your car and either incur a lower charging rate or nuisance circuit tripping.
Level 2 EV Charging
Level 2 Charging can be 30-60 amps @ 240V’s. Which can produce anywhere from 25-35 mph charging.
Pro’s:
- Faster charging for longer than normal drives or daily commutes.
Faster on demand charging for unexpected trips. - Off peak metering or utility supplied chargers.
Con’s:
- Higher cost installation
